What’s special about Sacramento Poker

Most card rooms in the Sacramento area offer poker tournaments with many offering daily tournaments. Most are in the $30 to $50 range with a few boasting a $100 buy-in on the weekend. While most are NL Hold’em, there are a few casinos offering mixed tournaments. Thunder Valley casino offers a $40 H.O.R.S.E. Event on the first Wednesday of each month. Every other Wednesday, they offer a $40 Omaha Hi-Lo Event. The Jackson Rancheria Casino in Jackson has a pair of non-Hold’em tournaments weekly. On Tuesday, they spread a $40 Omaha Hi-Lo Event and Thursday they hold a $30 NL Crazy Pineapple. They’re the only casino in California to offer a weekly Crazy Pineapple tournament.

Thunder Valley Casino is the only casino in the Sacramento area to host an annual poker series. The Heartland Poker Tour is considered one of professional poker’s “minor league” franchises. Amateur and professional poker players from all around the United States compete in series designed to draw in the average grinder. Some HPT Main Events have exceeded six-figured in prize pools.
